The Commission of National Inquiry's (CoNI) report on the transfer of power from President Mohamed Nasheed to his deputy in February 2012 has been reported missing to the police, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed on Monday.

Speaking at a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) campaign rally in Haa Dhaal Neykurendhoo, Solih said the lost report was a state secret and that an investigation was underway to find those responsible.

"Someone mentioned the CoNI report during the debate the other day. Look if it's there now. We don't know where it is. We have now asked the police to look into it. What a big state secret this is. It's not here today. We'll only know who's responsible when we investigate," he said.

Solih did not say when the report was known to be lost or missing. But voters should think deeply about the other candidates for such reasons, he said.

The MDP's first government was ousted on February 7, 2012 when President Nasheed resigned in the face of a police and military mutiny after opposition protests for 21 consecutive nights. Nasheed was forced to resign in a coup, the MDP alleged, and the inquiry commission was formed to investigate the transfer of power.
