The police have started discussions with the Prosecutor General's office for pressing charges over the murder of Naeema Moosa in Noonu Manadhoo last April.
Naeema, 62, was found dead with stab wounds on the night of April 7. After not hearing from her for two days, Naeema's family had called the police. The body was found by police officers who broke down the door and entered her home. A month and a half after the investigation began, three suspects were arrested from Manadhoo.
The suspects:
- Ahuzam Abdul Shukoor (23 years), Noonu Manadhoo, Fehivilaage
- Abdul Wahid Rifas (21 years), Noonu Manadhoo, Finifenmaage
- Hussain Fawaz (21 years), Noonu Manadhoo, Vinares
PG office spokesman Ahmed Shafeeu told Adhadhu that duty prosecution was underway in the Naeema murder case.
Duty prosecution involves law enforcement agencies sharing evidence and other information from the investigation and seeking legal advice from the PG office before charges are filed.
Shafeeu said the investigation was not complete yet as results have not arrived from some forensic tests.
Four months and 20 days have passed since the investigation began and the PG office has been extending the investigation period for the police every 15 days.
The police previously said that two murder weapons and the clothes worn by the assailants had been retrieved after they were burned and buried.
Adhadhu has learned that Azuham confessed to the murder while he was in custody on drug abuse charges and suffering from withdrawal. Fawaz and Rifas were arrested based on information from Azuham.
However, the motive for Naeema's murder remains unclear and the authorities have not made any official comment.
