Ruling party MP's company blames government's non-payment for project delays

Ruling party MP Saudulla Hilmi's MIMS Construction has blamed the government's non-payment of bills as the reason for delays in Manadhoo School project.

"The work is being delayed mainly due to non-payment of bills. The last bill for the project was paid about three months later," the company said.

During President Mohamed Muizzu's meeting with the residents of Manadhoo, the council president complained about the incomplete project which began five years ago.

Muizzu later said the contractor would be granted one final opportunity to conclude the work, after which the contract would be terminated if deadlines were not met.

He added that the government had disbursed all due funds for the project and that the delay was due to contractor negligence.

But MIMS said the company was contracted on December 22, 2021, but the project began on January 10, 2023 due to various reasons.

The company said it received MVR 12.63 million for works that had been completed over the past two years and six months.

It stressed that no amount had been paid for pending work, adding that the delays were mainly because of the government's non-payment.
