Tourism Minister Mausoom joins MDP

Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has signed for the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Mausoom was formerly a member of the Jumhooree Party (JP) which formed a coalition with the government in 2018.

But JP has declined an invitation to support President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's re-election campaign for the September 9 presidential election.

However, Mausoom announced his endorsement of the President when he won the ticket from the MDP in January.

He remained in the JP and said that he did so in the hope that JP leader Qasim Ibrahim could join the President’s coalition.

Mausoom joined JP in 2014 and resigned from the party on August 7, 2023.
