Several people were arrested from Baa Thulhaadhoo on Monday ahead of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's campaign visit to the island.
Police said four people were arrested for attempting to create disorder. They are members of the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
They were arrested with a court warrant. Police also seized loudspeakers that were playing songs against Solih who is running for re-election.
PPM issued a statement condemning the arrests and accused the government of taking "undemocratic actions."
"We consider it a crime against the spirit of democracy. We, therefore, call for the immediate release of all those arrested and compensation for the damage caused by the use of force by the police," the largest opposition party said.
PPM supporters are demanding the release of jailed opposition leader and former President Abdulla Yameen.
