A Progressive Party of Maldives-People's National Congress (PPM-PNC) government will not seek revenge and rule with justice and fairness, the opposition coalition's presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said.
Speaking at a PPM-PNC campaign rally in Haa Alif Kelaa for the September 9 presidential election, Muizzu said he would not only serve members of a particular party or discriminate based on political ideology.
"This country needs stability. We need to let go of the spirit of vengeance. However, we should have fairness and justice among us," he said.
Muizzu's remarks come after PNC president Abdul Raheem Abdulla faced criticism for saying that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would be in jail under a PPM-PNC government.
Muizzu did not directly contradict Abdul Raheem. But he said "tyranny should come to an end" and that fairness and justice should prevail in the country.
All citizens would be equal under a PPM-PNC administration, he said. The coalition's government would listen to the public and take heed of concerns, he added.
"All citizens will be equal. We will serve all citizens sincerely with happiness and satisfaction," Muizzu said.
Muizzu was awarded the opposition coalition's ticket after former President Abdulla Yameen was barred from contesting over his 11-year prison sentence. Freeing Yameen is one of Muizzu's campaign pledges.
