The planning ministry has decided to start visiting homes next week to verify living conditions as stated in the forms of eligible applicants for flats under the 'Gedhoruveriyaa' housing scheme.
State Minister for Planning Akram Kamaluddin told Adhadhu that the ministry will start inspections next week and visit all homes ahead of finalising the list of recipients.
On Tuesday, the planning ministry published a provisional list of flat recipients with more than 15,000 eligible applicants, which amounts to 13,000 flats.
The government is building 32 towers with 18 storeys each in the second phase of Hulhumale', including 1200 two-bedroom apartments and 2800 three-bedroom apartments.
On August 2, the government's Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation contracted India's Kalpataru Projects International Limited to build an additional 4000 flats in Hulhumale'. Another contractor was enlisted for a further 2000 flats.
Akram said preparations were underway to award a project to build 3500 more housing units for eligible applicants.
