Apartment buyers in the K-Park residential complex, near Hulhumale' Central Park, have requested an urgent meeting with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to assist in locating the project's developer, Hanbo Company.
The request for the meeting was submitted by Advocacy Chambers, a law firm representing victims who purchased apartments at K-Park but have yet to receive their properties.
Advocacy Chambers said that HDC has been uncooperative in efforts to resolve the ongoing issues surrounding the K-Park project. The law firm noted that this lack of cooperation has stalled any progress regarding the grievances filed by the apartment buyers.
When the project was initially awarded, media reports identified the developer as a South Korean firm. However, it later emerged that the entire operation was a fraud.
The scheme was orchestrated by Hassan Mamdhooh (Mandey), a minority shareholder of Hanbo. He defrauded numerous individuals by selling the same apartment units to multiple buyers. He is currently serving a 397-year prison sentence for his involvement in these crimes.
According to Advocacy Chambers, they attempted to resolve the issues by meeting with the developer on behalf of the "K-Park victims." However, the firm stated that all channels of communication have been severed as the company has effectively disappeared from existence.
The law firm explained that they are seeking HDC’s assistance because the corporation holds the necessary information to locate and facilitate a meeting with the developer’s representatives.
While HDC has contracted the Road Development Corporation (RDC) to complete the remaining work on K-Park and has begun handing over units, several buyers have expressed concern. They claim the apartments being handed over lack many of the features and specifications originally promised in their purchase agreements.
