The Democrats has launched its "Faseyha Viyafaari" (Easy Business) policy which would grant government loans to small and medium enterprises and new businesses at low-interest rates without a mortgage and equity requirement.

The new political party held events across the country on Tuesday night to launch its first policy ahead of the September presidential election.

In a video presentation shown at the events, MP Ilyas Labeeb said the loan would be issued if it was a feasible business proposal.

"There will be no mortgage or equity. If feasible, the money will be arranged. We are looking at a maximum interest rate of six percent," Ilyas said.

The Democrats' policy paper adds that import duties on machinery and equipment needed to start some such businesses will be cut.

The policy also includes changes to financial regulations to introduce international online payment gateways such as PayPal and Stripe.

The Democrats' also pledged that government-owned businesses would stop doing work done by public businesses.
