Capital Marine and Construction Pvt Ltd has been contracted to reclaim land for airport development in Baa Thulhaadhoo, Shaviyani Bileyfahi and Thaa Vilufushi.
The agreement for the project was signed at a ceremony held today at the housing ministry. Director General Fathmath Shana Farooq signed on behalf of the government whilst Managing Director Sevaraja Manivannan signed on behalf of Capital Marine and Construction.
The cost of the project is USD 42 million (MVR 654 million). Capital Marine and Construction was given a 280-day period for land reclamation on the three islands.
Details of land reclamation:
- Shaviyani Bileyfahi: 56.34 hectares
- Baa Thulhaadhoo: 44.70 hectares
- Thaa Vilufushi: 44.70 hectares
The government made an announcement in December 2021 seeking parties to develop domestic airports on six islands.
The designated islands were Haa Dhaal Makunudhoo, Shaviyani Bileyfahi, Baa Thulhaadhoo, Raa Beriyanfaru, Faafu Magoodhoo and Thaa Vilufushi. Work has so far only started on the Magoodhoo airport.
