More than 6,000 land plots will be allocated in the first round of the government's 'Binveriyaa' scheme, President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih announced Sunday.
After inaugurating the land reclamation project in Gulhi Falhu, the President said the project will add 150 hectares of land to the lagoon.
The government aims to allocate 2,000 plots of land from Gulhi Falhu, 2,200 plots from Hulhumale' and 2000 plots from Giraavaru Falhu, he said.
“Under these three projects, under the 'Binveriyaa' scheme in this round, we have now decided to allocate a total of 6,200 plots, which is a little more than the amount announced by Minister Aslam earlier,” he said.
Solih added that the land reclamation project in Giraavaru Falhu is also ongoing at a fast pace and that the land will be handed over to the recipients in August.
"The list of recipients has already been made public. The opportunity to submit complaints is open till July 15. After considering the complaints, we will resolve the issues on the list and hopefully start handing over the land by August at the latest," he explained.
Over 23,000 people applied for land under the 'Binveriyaa' scheme. According to the President, 19,858 of them are eligible.
