Male (June 23) - Bhutan lifted the Five Nations Championship title after defeating Bangladesh in the final.
Even though Bangladesh led the game for the majority of quarters, Bhutan kept their composure to fight till the end and get the win by 60-62. This is the first time on the International Stage Bhutan has won a competition of this calibre.
Throughout the competition, Bhutan played tremendously well. Their game management was the key factor behind this historical success. Bhutan is on course to develop a young side, as the majority of the players who are currently in the team are yet to hit their peak age.
The hosts - Maldives, lost a spot in the semi-final after the league round as they lost all games. Bhutan defeated their arch-rival Nepal in the semi-final to secure a place in the final. There were similarities in the semi-final and final for Bhutan, as they won the game in the dying moments.
Mithun of Bangladesh was crowned as MVP of the tournament.
This is the first time Maldives hosted an invitational basketball tournament like this. The teams really applauded the Maldives Basketball Association (MBA)'s work to organize such a competition for the teams in South Asia. Other than Maldives, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, the other team who took part in this competition were Pakistan. Pakistan played exceptionally well, after a long absence on the International Stage.
