President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's re-election campaign as the Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) candidate is due to begin this month.
MDP deputy chairman Ibrahim Waheed told Adhadhu that the party is planning to launch its campaign for the presidential election this month. But he did not provide an exact date for the campaign launch.
While the MDP has decided to begin the campaign in June, a nine-day Eid holiday is coming up later this month. Nine days were determined after the president declared two days that fall in the middle of the period as public holidays.
Ibrahim Waheed said the campaign would go ahead during the holidays.
The Elections Commission is due to start accepting candidacy papers for September's presidential election on July 23. The official campaign period will begin on August 10.
President Solih and Qasim Ibrahim, leader of the government coalition's Jumhooree Party, have announced their candidacies.
The opposition candidate, former president Abdulla Yameen, is serving an 11-year prison sentence on corruption charges.
