A Pakistani man who was detained while attempting to traffic 10 kilos of drugs into the Maldives earlier this week made his booking under a different name, according to the remand warrant.
Hamza Naeem, 25, from Pakistan was detained at the Velana International Airport on June 5. Customs officials found 10.14 kilos of heroin in his luggage. It has a street value of MVR 13 million.
The Criminal Court decided to remand him for 15 days.
A police intelligence officer told the court during the remand hearing that Naeem had confirmed his booking under a different name before taking a flight from Faisal Abad to Male’.
Pakistan is a hotspot for trafficking drugs to the Maldives. Several Pakistani people have been detained previously for smuggling and trafficking drugs.
On May 31, four Pakistanis were detained and 227 bullets of drugs were seized and on April 14, five kilos of drugs were seized at the airport from a Pakistani national.
Some 100 kilos of drugs and several Pakistani nationals were arrested earlier for attempting to smuggle by a sea boat.
