The police on Wednesday announced a search for a suspect wanted in connection with the assault of a policeman by a group in Hulhumale' on May 21.
The police are searching for Mohamed Ansaam Ibrahim, 23, from Fuvahmulah. A drug case involving Ansaam is also under investigation, the police said, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest on both charges.
Four people were arrested on the day of the assault while hiding out at the Hulhumale' flat 53. The suspects were aged 21, 33, 42 and 44.
The police said on May 22 that the Hulhumale' court remanded the 21-year-old suspect to 15 days in custody. While the 42-year-old and 44-year-old were remanded for seven days, the 33-year-old was remanded for five days.
The policeman was treated at the Hulhumale' hospital for injuries sustained in the assault and released later that night.
In a tweet commending the policeman, police commissioner Mohamed Hameed said he was attacked by a well-known gang in Male'.
