A senior member of the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has joined the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Mohmed Ibrahim Didi ‘Beybe’ has been with the PPM since the party was established in 2011 and had been involved in organizing party events.
He joined the MDP during a visit by president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to Addu city’s Hulhumeedhoo on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony in Shamsuddin School, Didi accused the PPM leadership of forgetting his sacrifices and commitment to the party.
He described Solih as a leader that maintains a close connection with the people and applauded his policy on developing all islands equally without discriminating against small or larger islands.
Didi also said the land reclamation and Gan airport development projects launched in Addu would benefit the city in the future.
He claimed that around 50 people will join MDP with him on Monday.
