Taxi flees with valuables worth MVR 150,000

The valuables have now been handed over to the owner.

A taxi has tried to flee after being entrusted with transporting goods worth MR 150,000 (USD 9772), police said on Friday.

The electronic items were handed over to the taxi driver at the Velana International Airport. Police said the taxi was found after reviewing CCTV footage.

“Maafannu police station looked through footage to find the taxi,” police said, encouraging people to report crimes as soon as possible.

The valuables have now been handed over to the owner.

Statistics show that the most reported crime this year is theft. Some 1310 thefts have been reported so far this year.
