The government had decided to hold a big Eid al-Fitr celebration to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan despite a heavy dependence on imports.

The global markets face an unpredictable future amid rising oil and commodity prices due to the situation in the Middle East after the US-Israel attacks on Iran.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) decided to carry out Eid celebrations for three days with the participation of 10 government companies. The 10 state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are:

1. State Electric Company Limited (STELCO)
2. Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC)
3. Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO)
4. Maldives Ports Limited (MPL)
5. Housing Development Corporation (HDC)
6. State Trading Organisation (STO)
7. Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL)
8. Road Development Corporation
9. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)
10. Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO)

The MNDF said the activities will be held at the Republic Square in Male', Hulhumale' Central Park, Hulhumale' Phace 2 Hiyaa Park and the Villimale' Football Stadium.

As in previous years, lanterns and fairy lights are being installed on the streets and outside government buildings.

Some island councils have also made announcements in the government gazette regarding the Eid celebrations.

Meanwhile, countries around the world are taking urgent measures to cut costs due to the ongoing conflict.
