It has been revealed that the Elections Commission (EC) began using eFaas to register political party members due to government influence.
Speaking at a ruling People's National Congress (PNC) gathering on Saturday night (March 7), President Mohamed Muizzu said the government wanted EC to use eFaas.
“We requested and the EC decided to use eFaas to register members to parties in a very transparent manner,” he said.
Muizzu said the request was made because they do not want any group to accuse PNC of fraudulent practices in increasing membership.
He thanked the EC for bringing the changes proposed by the government.
When Muizzu’s term began on November 17, 2023, the PNC had only 3,000 members. However, the party's membership has now reached 75,000.
Muizzu announced on Saturday night that the PNC leadership has decided to hold a congress in October to strengthen the party's internal management.
