An agreement has been signed to solve Addu city's electricity problem for the next 20 years, President Mohamed Muizzu announced yesterday (March 7).

He made the announcement at a rally in Male' as part of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC)'s Greater Addu campaign for the local councils election.

"The 26 megawatt power supply system will hopefully be installed under this agreement. The project will be completed by July next year and the electricity problem of Addu will be solved for the next 20 years," Muizzu said.

Muizzu added that Addu was facing power outage problem before he assumed office in November 2023.

The previous government had the majority in the Addu city council and the parliament, but failed to resolve the issue in five years, he said.

Muizzu has previously given multiple deadlines to resolve the power outage issue in the second largest city in the country.
