Addu Mayor Ali Nizar has slammed the project awarded to solve the electricity problem in the city and described it as as an act of deceiving the people.
Definite Solutions was awarded the Central Power Station project ahead of the April 4 local councils election. But the public has raised questions about the project.
“In addition to signing a blank document, the multi-million dollar project is being handed over to a company with no experience, similar to how the Addu bridge project was announced," Nizar said in a Facebook post.
Definite Solutions, which was awarded the USD 31 million contract by the Fenaka Corporation, is a Dubai-registered company.
Adhadhu found out that the company does not have an official website.
Although state broadcaster Public Service Media (PSM) reported that the company had carried out many projects in the Middle East, there was no such evidence, photos or social media posts on the Internet.
The company is registered in the Meydan Free Zone in Dubai. However, the company used a common address used by many companies in the area that use the instant company registration service.
Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Najah could not be reached for comment on the selection of the company for the project.
The Central Power Station project is a vital for the development of Addu city and the lack of transparency is a major concern among the people.
