The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has launched its Male' city manifesto for the upcoming local council elections.
The party launched its manifesto at a rally held at Artificial Beach last night (March 8). The manifesto contains pledges in three main areas.
Some of the pledges included in the manifesto
- Include Hulhumale'. Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru falhu and Uthuru Thilafalhu under the jurisdiction of Male'
- Establish a revolving housing fund to address the housing problem
- Facilitate the removal of dilapidated buildings in Male'
- Establishment of a traffic management unit in the city council
- Develop a multipurpose parking building and introduce Geydhoshu Parking
- Establish a convenient and inexpensive system for waste disposal
- Introduction of a flea market
- Increase space in harbour areas and develop services for travellers
- Bringing the management of historical sites under the control of the council
- Establishment of a free wedding ceremony for first marriages
- Establishment of nursing home facility for the elderly
- Establishment of a walk-in daycare centre
- Introduction of digital library services
- Establish a system to digitally display the items in the market
The current Mayor Adam Azim is contesting for re-election on the MDP ticket.
