The Economic Ministry is monitoring the supply chain challenges to ensure an uninterrupted supply of food and basic commodities.

In a statement, the ministry said it gives a top priority to ensuring food security and was identifying potential difficulties in the markets.

“All necessary steps will be taken in collaboration with government institutions and private enterprises to ensure that the stocks of essential commodities are not exhausted and to address the import challenges,” the ministry said.

The Maldives imports a large amount of goods from Middle Eastern countries. The UAE and Oman, in particular, are important trading partners.

Fruits and vegetables, as well as electronics and vehicles, are imported from the UAE, while Oman is the largest oil supplier.

President Mohamed Muizzu has appointed a special committee to work together to take measures to lessen the consequences of the war in Iran.
