President Mohamed Muizzu has said Israel is a terrorist country, and the current attacks by the United States are "wrong."
Meeting journalists for the first time in ten months, Muizzu made the comments after reporters questioned the Maldives' failure to condemn Israel and the US.
"Israel's attacks are wrong. Israel is a terrorist country. It is destroying Palestine. The US attacks are wrong too. Everyone is wrong," Muizzu said.
Muizzu first condemned Iran's retaliatory attacks on Arab countries at the press conference.
"Last night, I spoke with the President of the UAE. I expressed the Maldives' support for the UAE in this situation. The UAE is suffering damage from Iranian attacks. People are dying. Buildings are being destroyed," Muizzu said.
Muizzu added that he would speak with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar today to express his support for them.
He added that the Maldives will work with the Arab Islamic countries. Both the Maldives and Iran are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Iran is targeting the Gulf countries because the US is using its military bases in those countries to attack Iran.
In a statement condemning the situation, the Maldives government did not name Israel or the United States, which initiated the attacks on February 28.
