President Mohamed Muizzu has condemned Iran's retaliatory attacks on Arab countries, without condemning the US and Israel for initiating the attacks.

Meeting reporters for the first time in 304 days, Muizzu said he was contacting leaders of Arab Islamic countries to express support.

"Last night, I spoke with the President of the UAE. I expressed the Maldives' support for the UAE in this situation. The UAE is suffering damage from Iranian attacks. People are dying. Buildings are being destroyed," Muizzu said.

Muizzu added that he would speak with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar today to express his support for them.

Muizzu has not yet explained why he did not condemn the Israeli and US attacks on Iran. The Maldives has also not commented on the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
