A driver from Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) is in critical condition after falling into a garbage container on Sunday (February 22).

WAMCO media officer Shuau Haneef told Adhadhu that the incident occurred while the employee was dumping garbage into the container.

He said the employee was a driver and was not supposed to work in the field. But he was helping in the field to complete the shift early, Shuau added.

WAMCO said it will cover all medical expenses for the employee who is currently on a ventilator.

The incident occurred on Sunday, but was not reported to the police until Monday evening (February 23). Police said an investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) is conducting an urgent investigation into repeated workplace incidents connected to WAMCO.
