The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has decided to conduct an urgent investigation into the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) employees' working environment safety issues.

Adhadhu understands that the decision was taken at a commission meeting yesterday (February 24) after three workplace incidents in the past two months.

The most concerning incident occurred in January when an excavator hit a Bangladeshi man at a landfill in Thilafushi. His body was found two days later under the garbage.

Questions have been raised about WAMCO's negligence in reporting the man's disappearance. The company has not explained why it took two days to file the missing person report.
