SIMDI Group opens KuriFresh outlet

SIMDI Group has opened its first KuriFresh store in Male' today (February 15).

According to SIMDI Group, the outlet will enhance access to fresh, high-quality produce for Maldivian households, retailers, and restaurants. The produce sold in the outlet is grown in Shaviyani Ekasdhoo island.

"Over the years, SIMDI Group has been refining and developing the portfolio produced at Ekasdhoo, ensuring that freshness, sustainability, and food safety standards are achieved at an optimum level for the market," the company said.

SIMDI Group added that its team had continued to strengthen systems to improve quality, consistency, and operational capability.

"With the opening of the KuriFresh Outlet today, SIMDI Group is now ready and confident to introduce these produce to the market in line with what the brand stands for."

The KuriFresh Outlet was officially inaugurated by State Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare Ismail Azmee Adnan and Permanent Secretary Mohamed Anees.

SIMDI Group said KuriFresh was introduced with a clear purpose: to bring the quality often seen overseas and produce it locally in the Maldives.

"This initiative is aligned with the long-term vision of SIMDI Group’s Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Didi, and CEO, Dr. Mariyam Shakeela, to strengthen local capability, apply modern standards and technology, and build confidence in Maldivian-grown produce," the company stated.

According to the SIMDI Group, production at Ekasdhoo is supported by modern cultivation and handling standards, including greenhouses, hydroponics, and structured preparation processes designed to protect freshness, improve consistency, and adhere to food safety standards before products reach the market.

“KuriFresh represents our commitment to developing local produce to a high standard that meets real market expectations," said Mishal Ibrahim Mohamed Didi, Managing Director of SIMDI Group, and Yooshau Saeed, General Manager of SIMDI Group, in a joint statement.

"This is also another step forward for SIMDI Group in expanding the quality products and services we bring to the Maldivian market, building on our portfolio of over 200 global brands and more than 15,000 products and services," they added.

The joint statement announced that this outlet marks the first of many planned KuriFresh outlets to expand its reach across the Maldives.

State Minister Ismail Azmee Adnan expressed his appreciation for SIMDI Group’s initiative in launching the KuriFresh Outlet, highlighting its contribution toward strengthening access to fresh produce and supporting national efforts in agricultural development and food security.

Products available based on harvest from Ekasdhoo:

  • Fruits: Island Banana, Papaya (Red Lady), Papaya (Holland), Watermelon, Pumpkin
  • Vegetables: Eggplant, Sweet Peppers (Red, Yellow, Green), Beefsteak Tomato, Cherry Tomato (Red and Yellow), English Cucumber
  • Leafy Greens: Butterhead Lettuce, Cos Lettuce (Romaine), Oakleaf Lettuce (Green), Batavia Lettuce (Summer Crisp), Lollo Rossa Lettuce
  • Herbs: Thai Basil, Sweet Basil, Dill, Mint, Coriander, Rosemary, Lemongrass

The opening of the new outlet has made it easier for the public to get fresh vegetables and fruits during the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan.
