The Zoophilist Society of Maldives and the Tofu Foundation have rescued a cat that was abandoned in a small uninhabited island in Meemu atoll.
A group of tourists who travelled to the Fenboafinolhu island on a safari appealed for help on social media after discovering the cat.
They wrote that the cat was domesticated, but the safari rules prevented them from taking it onboard. They offered a financial gift to anyone who rescues the animal.
The Zoophilist Society initially conducted the rescue operation on February 21 between 5:30 am and 10:00 am. However, the cat was frightened and could not be captured the first time, the organization wrote on Facebook.
So, the team left the island after providing water and food. The cat was successfully rescued yesterday (February 22) and taken to Meemu Maduvvari island.
"It is now in the care of a cat lover in Maduvvari," the Zoophilist Society said.
The association said the cat will be neutered and released for adoption in the future.
The rescue mission was sponsored by the Tofu Foundation. The Zoophilist Society works stop animal cruelty in the Maldives.
