The Maldives Customs Service has seized 36.43 kg of hashish oil hidden in a shipment of goods brought to the Maldives by sea.

Customs said the drugs seized from the commercial port on Thursday (February 12) tested positive for hashish oil.

The street value of the drugs is more than MVR 29 million. This is the largest drug seizure so far this year.

In December last year, customs seized drugs worth more than MVR 30 million hidden in chocolate syrup bottles.

Two people were arrested in connection with the case, and investigations are still ongoing.
