President Mohamed Muizzu has begun an official visit to Germany at the invitation of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

According to the President's Office, Muizzu will engage in high-level official talks with Steinmeier and other senior officials from February 9 to 13.

"The discussions will cover a range of issues of mutual interest to the Maldives and Germany and are expected to further strengthen the longstanding ties between the two countries," the President's Office said.

He will also deliver a speech at the Humboldt University of Berlin and the German Council on Foreign Relations.

Muizzu is accompanied by government ministers and some businessmen. However, the President's Office did not disclose the details of the participants. A business forum is scheduled to be held during the trip.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany. The two countries established ties on July 5, 1966.
