Sheikh Mohamed Shifan has been elected President of Adhaalath Party (AP) with 99 percent of the vote.

His opponent Ikram Abdul Sattar got only one percent. The vote was taken online through the Fahi Vote system.

Only 22 percent of the eligible voters participated in the election.

Sheikh Shifan thanked everyone who trusted him and voted for him. He said his team met party members in the islands ahead of the vote.

Despite Ikram's withdrawal from the election last week, AP decided to go forward with the vote. He accused some members of planning to rig the vote.

The former President of AP is Sheikh Imran Abdulla. He served as the party President for two terms.
