The Adhaalath Party (AP) has decided to work together with other political parties to put President Mohamed Muizzu on the right track.
In a statement, the religious party said Muizzu's government had shattered the constitutional order, violated people's rights and imposed failing policies.
“The majority of the Adhalath Party Consultative Assembly resolves to consult with the political parties to hold the government accountable for the sake of Islam, the country and the people,” the statement said.
The AP expressed concern over rushed constitutional amendments and laws, which have chained MPs to the ruling party and infringed upon fundamental rights. The party also criticised the unfair removal of Supreme Court justices.
The statement said the government's incompetence had caused the economy to decline to an unprecedented level since the 2004 tsunami and the global pandemic of COVID-19.
“The prices of basic services provided by state-owned enterprises have soared to unaffordable levels, the government has deliberately bankrupted small and medium enterprises, the lifeblood of the economy, for political purposes,” it added.
The AP slammed Muizzu's false promise to revive the economy and branded the government's fiscal policies as a failure.
The party further condemned the government's attempt to withhold the right to freedom of expression and free media within the framework of Islam.
“There is a fear that the most basic rights and freedoms of the people will be lost completely because of the policies of the government," the party said.
