A British couple who were on their sixtieth holiday in the Maldives have died in two separate incidents.

Police identified the couple as Elaine Richmond, 70, and Malcolm John Richmond, 71. They were staying in Ellaidhoo resort in Alif Alif atoll.

Elaine died on December 19 while diving near the resort's reef. She went diving with her husband. Richmond died on December 21 while at the airport to return to the UK. He died at ADK Hospital in Male'.

Police said the investigation has not yet identified anyone else involved in the couple’s death or any suspicious circumstances.

A source told the Daily Mail that the couple have no children and the funeral is scheduled for January 29 in the UK.
