Heavy continuous rain since early morning Tuesday has caused flooding in parts of Male' city.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) issued a yellow alert from Baa atoll to Meemu atoll, including the Male' region, until 9:00 am.

Some areas, especially in Maafannu district, were flooded, causing difficulties for pedestrians and vehicles.

But pumps were not used to drain the flood waters as of 7:00 am.

The large pumps acquired by the city council were earlier handed over to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF). They are operated and maintained by the MNDF.

Today's weather

  • Scattered rain with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected
  • Southwest/westerly at 10 – 20 miles per hour. Winds may gust to 40 miles per hour during showers
