It has been nearly six months since President Mohamed Muizzu's last press conference with journalists on this year's Press Freedom Day.
On May 3, Muizzu began the press conference at 10:00 am and ended the conference at 12:55 am on May 4. Short breaks were taken throughout the day.
Muizzu concluded the record-breaking press conference by assuring the media that he would work with them and that he would hold frequent meeting with journalists.
But 178 days have now passed since he last met journalists. November 3 will mark six months since the last press conference.
November 17 marks the second anniversary of the current administration. Muizzu has held only two press conferences during this period.
The first press conference was on December 5, 2023 and the record-breaking press conference was held 515 days later.
While Muizzu is seen as a media "unfriendly" leader, he recently pushed ahead with a draconian law to control the media.
The local journalist community has rejected the law, while the international community has also called on the government to repeal it.
