The list of terrorist groups and war zones, which is required by law to be reviewed and published once every year, was not reviewed last year.

The President is tasked with reviewing the list in consultation with the National Security Council. The most recent list was released on the last day of 2024.

The Muizzu administration did not disclose the reason for the delay in publicising the reviewed list in 2024.

Adhadhu understands that the National Security Council did not schedule a meeting in 2025 to review the list.

The law states that the list must be publicised once every year, even if the terrorist groups and war zones remain unchanged.

The list released in 2024 had 20 terrorist groups and declared Syria a war zone. The Prevention of Terrorism Act bans travel to war zones.

It is an offence to join a war, travel to a war zone or remain in such a zone without special permission from the government.
