Yazmeed Mohamed has been appointed as the Vice President of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) following the resignation of High Court Judge Mohamed Niyaz.
Niyaz resigned as JSC Vice President yesterday. He resigned from the post after the JSC started investigating a case connected to High Court judges.
Yazmeed was appointed to the post today.
He was appointed as a member of the JSC on February 23, 2025. He was appointed to the post after the dismissal of lawyer Mohamed Sameer, who was appointed by the President to the commission.
Yazmeed was appointed to the commission after a constitutional case was filed in the Supreme Court over the constitutional amendment that gives political parties the power to disqualify MPs.
Yazmeed is an accountant. He was the candidate of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) in last year's parliamentary elections. He contested the Villingili constituency.
The JSC has welcomed Yazmeed's appointment as its Vice President.
