The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation against High Court Judge Mohamed Faisal who resigned yesterday.

The ACC said they had registered a case against a High Court judge accused of corruption and money laundering.

The ACC did not disclose the name of the judge, but Adhadhu can confirm that the case is connected to Faisal.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) decided to appoint Faisal as the High Court Chief Judge on April 17. He was served as the acting Chief Judge.

But in an abrupt change on November 19, Abdulla Jameel Moosa was named as the new acting Chief Judge.

Faisal resigned from the High Court yesterday amid JSC investigations against five High Court judges, including him.

Under the Courts Act, the High Court has 11 judges. The JSC is investigating Judges Mohamed Niyaz, Mohamed Faisal, Hussain Mazeed, Fathimath Faruheeza and Dheebanaz Fahmee.

The JSC did not say whether it was investigating the cases. But some of the judges have already been summoned to the JSC, while others have received the summons.

Adhadhu understands that the most experienced judge of the High Court bench Mohamed Niyaz has also decided to retire. Niyaz is a member of the JSC.
