Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Vice President Yazmeed Mohamed and its member Ali Abdul Latheef are influencing some court cases to carry out "orders from above."
Yazmeed was appointed to the JSC by President Mohamed Muizzu. Ali Abdul Latheef sits on the commission to represent the legal professionals.
Reliable sources told Adhadhu that they have been calling judges to influence the ongoing cases in some courts and asking them to act in a certain way.
Sources told Adhadhu that they issued instructions for a remand hearing in Maafushi Court, a case in the Family Court and an ongoing case in Gaaf Alif Villingili Magistrate Court.
Yazmeed was appointed as a member of the JSC on February 23, 2025. He was appointed to the post after the dismissal of lawyer Mohamed Sameer.
He became the commission's Vice President after the resignation of High Court Judge Mohamed Niyaz.
Yazmeed was appointed to the commission after a constitutional case was filed in the Supreme Court over the amendment that gives political parties the power to disqualify MPs.
Yazmeed is an accountant. He was the candidate of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) in last year's parliamentary elections. He contested the Villingili constituency.
Ali Abdul Latheef was appointed as a member of the JSC on December 12, 2023.
