Male' Maldives: Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has announced a major milestone for Maldivian football, as its President, Ahmed Thariq (Tom), has been appointed to the FIFA Technical Development Committee for the 2025–2029 term.
The appointment was officially confirmed during the FIFA Council meeting held on 2 October 2025, in accordance with FIFA Statutes and Governance Regulations. This marks a historic first for the Maldives, with Mr. Thariq becoming the first Maldivian ever appointed to a FIFA Standing Committee.
Mr. Thariq’s inclusion in the committee is a significant recognition of the Maldives’ growing role in regional and global football development. The FIFA Technical Development Committee is tasked with overseeing key aspects of the sport’s advancement worldwide, including grassroots development, coaching education, and technical strategies.
Representing Maldivian football at the global level, Mr. Thariq’s role will allow for valuable contributions to the future of the game, while also offering an opportunity to showcase the progress and potential of football in the Maldives.
