The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a severe weather forecast for the next two days.

The Met Office said bad weather is expected on April 9, 10 and 11, with slight showers expected on April 12.

The weather is expected to improve on April 13.

The bad weather across the country is due to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal region.

A white alert was issued earlier today for heavy rain, thunderstorms and winds up to 40 mph.

Heavy rains were recorded in different parts of the country in the past 24 hours. Laamu Kadhdhoo received 159.5 mm of rainfall.
