Continuous rainfall over the past 24 hours has caused widespread flooding in Male'.

The Met Office reported 136.5 mm of rainfall in the city between 8:00 a.m. yesterday and 8:00 a.m. today, making it the area with the highest recorded rainfall in the country during this period.

Efforts to drain the water, particularly in the heavily affected Maafannu area, are underway, with the army and the city council working together. The National Disaster Management Authority is also assisting in these efforts.

The Met Office has issued multiple alerts for heavy rainfall, including a white alert for the entire country.

Adverse weather conditions are expected to persist for five days, starting last Wednesday. The Met Office has also advised seafarers to remain vigilant during this period, warning of winds reaching speeds of up to 55 mph during severe weather.

The current weather patterns are typical for this time of year, according to the Met Office.
