Malé, Maldives (October 16) - The Maldives National Football Team is set to play friendly matches during the upcoming FIFA November break, as announced by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
The FIFA break will run from November 11 to November 19, during which FAM has confirmed that the Maldives will take part in friendlies, having accepted invitations from countries.
This will mark the first international matches for the Maldives this year. The last time the Maldives played internationally was on October 17 of last year against Bangladesh in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ali Suzain will be the head coach of the Maldives team in the upcoming friendlies.
FAM has yet to announce the teams that the Maldives will face during the November break.
Nepal gave an invitation for the Maldives to participate in their Tri Nations Cup in November, but although the Maldives accepted, the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) later decided to cancel the tournament.
Last month, the Maldives received invitations from Malaysia and Sri Lanka for friendly matches, but there have been no updates since. Sri Lanka recently played against Myanmar.
It is still unclear when the domestic football season in the Maldives will begin, but Maldives league champions Maziya Sports and Recreation are preparing to compete in the upcoming AFC Challenge League.
