Maldives-US Trade and Investment Framework Council meeting held in Washington

The third meeting of the Maldives-US Trade and Investment Framework (TIFA) Council has been held in Washington.

The meeting, co-chaired by Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, was attended by US Assistant Trade Representative for South and Central Asia Brendan Lynch and senior officials of the two countries.

According to a statement from the US Trade Representative Office, Saeed and Lynch discussed further strengthening of economic ties and investments for growth during the meeting.

The Maldives government officials presented the economic policy of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and requested for full cooperation and assistance in the implementation of the policy.

The Maldives delegation also highlighted the opportunities for investment in Maldives in the financial, maritime, real estate and tourism sectors while both countries agreed to increase cooperation on labor rights, digital trade and environmental sustainability.

Economic Minister Saeed is currently on a visit to the United States to hold official trade talks with the United States.

He earlier met with US corporate officials at a round table discussion organized by the US Chamber of Commerce.
