The US Ambassador to Maldives, Hugo Yon, has met with the officials from political parties in the Maldives.

Officials from ruling People's National Congress (PNC), opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Adhaalath Party (AP) and Jumhooree Party (JP) attended the meeting.

In a post on social media X, the US embassy in Male' said discussions were held on "US interests in the Maldives and engagement in the Indo-Pacific region."

Over the past week, Yon held discussions with various people from different sectors in the Maldives.

Adhadhu understands that Yon is expected to leave his post soon to fill a senior position in the US State Department.

The Maldives and US established diplomatic ties in 1966, but Yon was appointed as the first US Ambassador just two years ago in 2023.
