Moosa Ali Jaleel has been appointed as the Director General of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).

Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef confirmed the appointment to several local media outlets. However, he did not respond to calls from Adhadhu.

Earlier this year, Jaleel contested the Male' City mayoral election on the ticket of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), though he was unsuccessful in his bid.

Moosa Ali Jaleel is recognised for his role in defending the Maldives during the mercenary-led coup attempt on November 3, 1988. During the attack on the military headquarters, he led a tactical team that ventured outside the barracks to scout enemy positions and movements under heavy fire.

Before he retired from the military, Jaleel held several high-ranking positions, including Director of the Coast Guard, Vice Chief of Defence Force, and Chief of Defence Force.

During his distinguished military career spanning over 31 years, Jaleel was decorated with nine ribbons and 11 medals for his service and bravery.

Following his military career, he also served as the Minister of Defence. In recognition of his invaluable contributions to national security and the military, the current administration recently conferred upon him the prestigious Order of Military Honour.
