Former Deputy Mayor Mohamed Areesh and two others were appointed to the boards of state-owned enterprises today.

The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) announced that Mohamed Areesh has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Maldives Post Limited.

In addition, Ismail Farhad Ahmed was appointed to the Board of Directors of the State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation, while Ahmed Imdah Mohamed was appointed to the Board of Directors of the State Trading Organisation (STO).

Areesh contested the Maafannu West constituency in the recent local council elections. However, he was defeated by the MDP candidate by a margin of 365 votes.

Following his defeat in the council elections, Areesh was appointed as an Under Secretary at the President's Office in August.

Elected as the councillor for the Maafannu North-West constituency in 2021, Areesh most recently served as Deputy Mayor. He was appointed to that post on March 16, 2025.

Although Areesh was originally elected to the City Council on an MDP ticket, he signed with the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) on January 25, 2024.
