The Maldives and Pakistan are scheduled to sign 12 agreements during President Mohamed Muizzu's official visit to Pakistan next Tuesday, according to Pakistani media reports.
Citing senior government officials, Pakistani news outlets reported that the two nations will sign 12 documents, including Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and formal agreements. These reports indicate that the exchange will include a pact on defence and military cooperation.
Furthermore, the agreements are expected to span various sectors, including trade, investment, healthcare, education, climate change, tourism, and civil aviation.
Muizzu is set to arrive in Pakistan the day after tomorrow. Media reports suggest that discussions during the visit will also focus on the establishment of direct flights between Pakistan and the Maldives.
During the visit, Muizzu is scheduled to meet with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari. He is also expected to hold high-level meetings with several federal ministers.
The last time a Maldivian head of state made an official visit to Pakistan was in 2015.
