Administrative and supportive staff at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) have submitted a petition to President Mohamed Muizzu, outlining serious concerns regarding their current salary structure.

This marks the second petition submitted by IGMH staff to the President expressing grievances over changes made to the Civil Service salary framework.

The staff had previously submitted a petition on December 9, 2025. However, the latest petition notes that they have yet to receive any response to their first submission.

Signed by 361 employees, the petition calls for the equalisation of attendance allowances and the protection of rights for staff working overtime.

The petition also highlights concerns regarding the removal of risk allowances, disparities in attendance allowances, and issues surrounding compensation for working on Saturdays and public holidays.

The staff have requested resolutions for four key issues:

  • Standardising Attendance Allowances - The staff are calling for a uniform attendance allowance of between MVR 200 and MVR 250 for every working day, regardless of the employee's rank or grade.
  • Saturday Allowances - While Saturday is a non-working day for most Civil Service institutions, IGMH remains operational. The petition requests that staff required to work on Saturdays receive both overtime pay and public holiday allowances.
  • Public Holiday Allowances - The staff are seeking a fair and consistent system for holiday pay for those required to work on official government holidays.
  • Implementation of National Pay Commission Allowances - The petition urges the immediate disbursement of specific allowances previously recommended by the National Pay Commission in May 2026 to address disparities caused by the pay harmonisation process.

The petition emphasises that hospital staff provide essential, life-saving services to the public under all circumstances. It calls for an end to discrimination and the establishment of equality for all employees, from the lowest-ranking staff to senior management.
